Vehicle Description 1978 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham 440 Coupe The 1978 New Yorker Brougham was Chrysler's top-of-the line car, competing with Cadillac and Lincoln.
They were always rarer, with a mere 9624 coupes produced in 1978.
This one has the St.
Regis package, which was outsourced to ASC and included a padded canopy vinyl top with fixed opera windows.
In addition to that, this car has a tilt telescope wheel, Auto Temp II air conditioning, Corinthian power leather seats, power windows, locks , windows remote trunk release, Chrysler road wheels and a right side remote mirror.
Power is provided by the optional 440 engine sent through the 727 Torque Flite transmission.
Condition of the car is excellent, with original paint and interior.
There are some thin spots on the hood and some touch ups, but it's only original once.
Since I have had the car, it has received a new Carter Thermoquad carburetor, rebuilt transmission with an external cooler added, full tune up including new electronics ignition, new brake booster, fuel pump and a new set of Vogue wide white walls about a year ago.
I am the third owner on this car and it shows around 55k miles.
At some point, the original owner put a high performance cam in the engine and a flow master muffler, giving this big coupe tremendous acceleration and a healthy engine sound.
The big New Yorker Brougham would be gone after 1978 and it's a good representation of what Chryslers were supposed to be.
Big, luxurious cars with performance and excellent handling that most seventies land yachts can only dream of.
